Our name is inspired by Thomas Edison’s vision of creating a place where brilliant entrepreneurs and inventors could work together to create new and better products that either disrupted existing industries or created entirely new markets. Mucker is named after the original “hackers”, who worked with Edison in his labs –- Thomas Edison’s Muckers.
Historians have often called the commercial R&D laboratory Edison’s greatest invention. Before Edison came along, inventors typically worked alone and relied more on inspiration than a repeatable process. Edison changed all that by effectively creating the modern innovation and commercialization laboratory by marrying a proprietary innovation process with a team of brilliant and ambitious young men from all over United States and Europe to work with him. Many Muckers eventually moved on to become successful inventors and entrepreneurs themselves after spending time with Edison.
Our Values
Humility
We are not the stars of this show. Entrepreneurs and the companies they build are. We’re supporting cast members, in the background, the way venture capital used to be.
Service
We exist to serve our portfolio companies and limited partners. Period.
Integrity
Actions speak louder than words. Socrates said: “The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.”
Continuous Improvement
Thomas Edison said: “The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” We are constantly striving to be better partners to our portfolio companies.
Diversity
People often call Silicon Valley an “echo chamber.” We don’t live there anymore. We value diverse points of view, opinions, and backgrounds. It’s reflected on our team and in our portfolio.
